FARE RISES AND STRIKES
As well as fare rises that have added an average of 3.4% to train journeys across the UK, the RMT Union has announced three days of strikes.
Planned Strike days:
MONDAY 8th JANUARY
WEDNESDAY 10th JANUARY
FRIDAY 12th JANUARY
South Western Railways (SWR) say:
“None of us wanted to be in this position, and we have repeated given the RMT assurances that we plan to keep the second person on all our trains. Despite these reassurances the RMT executive seems determined not to listen and is pressing ahead with these damaging strikes.”
Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) say:
“Every single effort that RMT has made to reach negotiated settlements in these separate disputes with the different train operating companies over safe operation and safe staffing has been kicked back in our faces and we are left with no option but to confirm a further phase of industrial action in the New Year. No one should be in any doubt, these disputes are about putting the safety of the travelling public before the profits of the private train companies…”
If planning to travel passengers are advised to check their journey in advance.
SWT have stated they will try and keep disruption to the minimum.
