With good local support travelling down to the match, Whitchurch United FC took on GE Hamble FC in the ‘Extra Preliminary Round’ of the prestigious FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.
The team were hoping to better their successes in last year’s competition when they were finally put out by Gloucester City.
But the glory of last year’s fabulous run in the competition is not to be repeated as two goals were put past the Whitchurch defence by the home favourites in the first half. Last season Hamble had finished in 5th place in the Sydenham Wessex Premier League, a division above the Whitchurch Jam Boys, so it was always going to be a hard game.
GE Hamble 2 – Whitchurch Utd 0
Nevertheless the team can still hold its head high and with several other cup competitions on the horizon including the FA Vase, a good season beckons for the supporters who will be cheering the club on to match last year’s haul of silverware.
The next game is away in the Sydenham Wessex League Cup, against Petersfield Town.
Saturday 18th August 2012 – Kick Off: 4.00pm
