Cycle fun continues in the dark thanks to funding of lighting from FOWPS.

Longer evenings have not stopped the continuance of the popular Bike Club held on Monday evenings at the Primary School. The Club, the brainchild of local parent Virginia Phillips, has seen children meeting after school to enjoy a mix of cycling skills and fun games.

Very many thanks…
Many thanks must go to the Friends of Whitchurch Primary School (FOWPS), who with support from the school, funded rechargeable floodlights to enable the Club to continue after the clocks changed. Bikes have also been kindly donated and repaired which can be used by those without – more would be welcome.

Developing awareness and cycling skills
Parents, carers and grandparents kindly joined in to assist in the activities, which have included advice on riding techniques as well as development of awareness and road safety.
Games like dodge, ride-the-line and the slow bike race have all provided whoops of fun while miss-the-instructor saw some very skillful swerve techniques. The BMX track in adjacent QE11 Field has also been enjoyed with riders showing their competitive prowess.

Back next year
A break is now being taken and it is intended to resume in February, while also in the pipeline are ideas for further activities such as talks, bike care sessions and family riding.

Enjoy those wheels! – have a Happy Christmas and New Year, and if you don’t cycle how about setting a very worthwhile New Year’s Resolution?
