The festive season may be far away for many, but for businesses and organisations in the town planning for seasonal Christmas activities, arrangements need to get underway earlier.
There was a very positive atmosphere as local traders and volunteers met in the Silk Mill to discuss ideas for the events that surround the traditional switching on of the lights, which on Thursday 5th December, is less than three months away.
Working hard with support
The shopkeepers, the Traders of Whitchurch, along with the Silk Mill, Gill Nethercott Centre and other locations, are all working hard to make the occasion another to remember. Support is also coming from the Town Council, the Festival Committee, this town website and several other businesses and organisations.
With late night opening, Christmas trees, competitions, music, decorations and traditional attractions such as the Santa’s Grotto, the night will be another for the town to enjoy.
A panto theme
It is hoped to once again have someone special to help the town’s Mayor and Mayoress ‘switch the switch’ and to make the town sparkle. This year’s theme will be be based on a famous panto character and once again shop windows will be decorated adding colour and excitement to the street scene.
Don’t miss out
Excitement was certainly rising at the meeting and all shopkeepers and businesses are urged not to ‘miss out’ on involvement in this popular occasion. More help in needed whether it is helping decide the activities, providing donations towards costs or prizes, or just moral support.
