The theme was ‘Movement’ and children from Whitchurch Primary School were invited to submit entries in a Photographic Challenge run in conjunction with the town website and Whitchurch Arts.
In the Summer term, John Buckley and Andrew Reeves-Hall met with the children at the school and introduced them to a number of ideas to consider when taking photographs, including composition, colour, light, shapes and of course – Movement.
The standard of entries was high and there were some exciting expressions of creativity. As well as the official judges, everyone in the town was also invited to pick their best from the online gallery, making the vote a true community choice.
On Friday morning Andrew and John returned to the school and in a special full assembly where Andrew showed all the entries before announcing the overall favourites.

A special Smelly Sock Award was also made for the best picture submitted by a member of the school staff – with the, err, lucky winner being head teacher Miss Peters for her action shot of an alligator. Miss Peters told the children the story of just how many times she took the photo before she captured it!
As an added attraction, the Assembly was rounded off by some excellent music from One Accord, who played out the children leaving the Hall.
