Local people are being given an opportunity to make comment on options for changes to community bus services by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

The Whitchurch Community Bus is one of these. This route runs on Tuesdays and Fridays and connects Laverstoke, Woodcott and Litchfield with Whitchurch.

Basingstoke and Deane say that the service gives high satisfaction but costs £9.28p each time someone uses it, making it the single most expensive ‘cost per trip’ service to run in the Borough.

Three options are being considered:

A
Stop the route
and divert users to Neighbourcare’s voluntary car service.

B
Operate the current route
as a taxi-share scheme using a local taxi provider – passengers need to book in advance and if no one books the trip will not operate.

C
Amend the route
to include more of ‘residential’ Whitchurch and integrate with a commercial route serving both Basingstoke and Andover.

Feedback is required by Friday 13th December.

I used to live in Woodcott, and in the past used this service many times, as it was the only way I had to get out and about. My personal preference is option C, as there are areas in the edge of Whitchurch that could benefit by this service.
