Hanging basket smWHITCHURCH IN LIGHTS have been successful in obtaining a grant* towards the purchase of hanging baskets in the summer and Christmas lights for the festive season.

Brightening up the town
Every shop, business and organisation in the town centre has been contacted by the Whitchurch In Lights Group seeking permission to hang baskets of flowers from the buildings. Some residences in the very close proximity of the town have also been contacted to add to the splendour, in the hope of brightening up the town to make it appealing and inviting for locals and visitors.

“It would look amazing”
Whilst in this first year of fundraising the group will only have limited funds to concentrate on the town centre; they hope that many residents will also take on board the effort being made and will join in.

“It would look amazing if Winchester Street/Road, Church Street, Bell Street, Newbury Street and London Street/Road was an array of colour as you enter the town.”

The town has suffered some setbacks recently with some local business relocating and leaving some shops units empty; the group believe it’s vital to get the town looking it’s best to attract new businesses.

It’s worth remembering that hanging baskets are available locally from House and Garden at the rear of the Connect Fuels Petrol Station on Church Street but you’ll need to join the queue J

Great Gatsby Gala
The Whitchurch In Lights Groups are planning a Great Gatsby Gala Evening on Saturday 22nd July 2017, this event will fundamentally provide most of the money required for the flowers and lights and they urge everyone to save the date and make a commitment to attend. Every penny made, will go back into the town.

Contact the Group through their Facebook page or email whitchurchinlights@gmail.com if you want to know more.

* Town Council support
Note that at the Whitchurch Town Council last week, councillors agreed to provide a match-funded grant of £1000 to help support this initiative.
