Many will be out enjoying the countryside both around Whitchurch and further afield this weekend in several events including the excellent Primary Pedal*.
Meanwhile youngsters who are seeking road skills will be able to take part in a new series of weekly Bike Club sessions from Monday.
Starts next Monday (8th May)
Held at the Primary School at 3.45pm on Monday afternoons, youngsters receive advice based on the National Standard Cycle Scheme, also known as Bikeability, the replacement for the old ‘cycling proficiency’. The ‘Club’ is the brainchild of school parent Virginia Phillips and is run by a nationally qualified instructor.
Fun and skills
The hour long sessions are arranged with both fun and skill development in mind, along with a healthy element of competition.
The riding takes place on the school playground and also on the adjacent BMX track in Daniel Park. Some training on early roadcraft is incorporated, such as starting off, signalling, and awareness skills. Parents are welcome to help and join in.
Its simple – Just put names down
Numbers are limited so please try and book places first – Get listed at the School Office or call 01256 892650.
Each session costs just £2.00 and all that is needed is a bike, suitable clothing and a helmet for children. Adults can bring their own bikes and join in if they wish.
A number of cycles have kindly been donated to Bike Club so please ask if this is an issue.
