Fancy a pint? Then better get down the Bell Inn! There is an award winning beer on the bar!

Whitchurch is well-known for its pubs and its choice of real ales, often around 15 to 20 different traditiionally-brewed beers being available, although as pubs close that choice is diminishing.

Today those who visit the Bell will be able to sample an award winning ale, as the Gales HSB, now brewed by family brewers Fullers in Chiswick and a regular on the Bell’s bar, took honours in the Champion Beer of Britain. Organised by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) at the Great British Beer Festival in Earl’s Court, the top beers from heats held throughout the country were judged by a panel of experts.

The tasty dark ale took the Silver in the Strong Bitters category, something that is not surprising to the regular real ale drinkers in the Bell who regularly sample this excellent offering, where host’s Jan and Paul’s beers have already seen them selected for the 2010 Good Beer Guide.
Truthfully, HSB has been a on the handpumps at the pub for many years but now we can also toast its success as an official award winner.

Several people from Whitchurch are visiting the national festival this week where there are an incredible 700 beers on offer!
If you can’t make it then remember the range of beers that can be found locally, and pop into any of Whitchurch’s fine pubs to try one.
