Following Tesco’s application to install an external ATM at their store in Winchester Street, local Borough Councillor Keith Watts has started a petition for residents to support the move.
See our previous story HERE.
With HSBC likely to relinquish the lease to their Town Hall site next year there is a real possibility that that the town could lose its external 24-hour cash point. the Town Hall machine was previously only installed after a concerted effort and persistent petitioning by local residents in the face of strong opposition from the planners. When HSBC closed their branch office the machine was only given a stay of execution after the Town Council backed Save the Bank campaign.
It is believed the planners may be opposing the current Tesco application on conservation and highways grounds, and should they be successful the town could find itself without any 24 hour ATM.
Councillor Watts has has said “If Whitchurch is to get an external atm we will have to campaign for it. I have made contact with the applicant’s agent to offer my support.”
He has also created a petition which is available: DOWNLOAD PETITION
