Whitchurch United 3 – Winchester Castle – 1

Whitchurch United took a good win last night after a lean period in the Wessex League where they have slipped to 13th place after what was a very promising start to the season.
In the Andover Open Cup match held under the Longmeadow floodlights, the first team got back into goal scoring mode, putting three past Winchester Castle, including two late goals in what was finally a well-deserved 3-1 win.

The match started lively with a United goal quickly countered by one from the visitors, before it settled into a hard evenly matched contest. But the character and resilience of the home side came through with two well-taken goals in the closing stages of the second half which will surely boost the team’s confidence.

With just one win in the last six League games it is hoped this match is a turning point as the Jam Boys ready themselves for next Saturday’s home match against AFC Portchester, currently five places above them in 8th spot.
Kick off down at Longmeadow is at 3.00pm
