Whitchurch has a very strong undercurrent of creativity, much of which rarely surfaces.

There is a wealth of talent, in both professional and amateur spheres. This weekend sees the start of Hampshire Open Studios 2011 and Whitchurch is participating in strength with three venues showing works while there is also a painting event on the Meadow.

at the Gill Nethercott Centre…
Hampshire Arts, a group of professional artists, present their Exhibition at the airy Gill Nethercott Centre, having previously held it in the Parish Hall. There is plenty of adjacent parking as well as full disabled access. The event is open from 10am to 6pm on both days and has work ranging from original paintings and photography to jewellery and sculptures

at the Fairclose Studio…
In Fairclose four artists will be both showing their works and giving demonstrations at The Studio – ceramics, textile work and mosaics will be on display from 10am to 5pm, again on both days.

at Leat House…
The third Open Studios event is at Leat House, behind Clacys in London Street where there is to be a display of work using an etching press from 10am to 4pm on both days.

and down on the Meadow…
It is not just the town centre that sees artistic activities.
On Sunday at the Millennium Meadow there is a hands on painting activity – ‘Paint the Green’ from 10am to 3pm when anyone is invited to try their hand at painting in the tranquil setting.
Why not bring along a picnic too. There will also be special water meadow sausages (booking required).

and coming soon…
Meanwhile on the horizon a whole range of creative activities have been planned ranging from ‘Drawing from Life’ workshops and Art Exhibitions through to top quality music concerts.
Keep an eye on the WHITCHURCH TOWN DIARY

and all year long…
As well as the special events above, Whitchurch also has its ongoing Off the Walls project organised by Whitchurch Arts. Local venues such as the White Hart, the Doctors Surgery, Serenity and other local businesses display work from local artists. Keep your eyes open. Meanwhile when walking between the venues, have a look at the community art project too – mind the bollards!
