Whitchurch is certainly somewhere where music plays a large part and this weekend is no exception with at least three events today and, if that isn’t enough, more tomorrow.

Music, fundraising and good food is to the fore down at the Social Club where steward Roy Preston is putting on a top function in aid of the Soldiers Charity. Top covers band Just Testing visit this evening, having been popular earlier in the year when they entertained after the Pub Race. The evening also incorporates the Big Curry where all profits go towards helping our soldiers, former soldiers and their families. A raffle is being held too, and of course there is the usual bar. Entry is free.

Meanwhile down in town centre the White Hart has singer and guitarist P.R.Dewhurst entertaining with his mix of classic songs from the last 60 years – folk, rock and soul all in a solo acoustic setting. Having previously played at the Royal Albert Hall and the folk clubs of New York, this is his debut in Whitchurch, and again it is free entry.

A different type of musical entertainment is across the road at the Parish Hall, where the Olde Tyme Players perform a Morecambe and Wise tribute – Bring me Sunshine, a Hog the Limelight supported event. Tickets here are £15.00 (from the Handbag Shop) and include a Ploughmans and glass of wine. This is a fundraiser for the Parish Hall Restoration Fund.

Sunday continues with the Bells – and not just the morning ringing at All Hallows. Keith Bell and friends will be holding another of their laid back acoustic sessions in the Bell Inn from 4.00pm – all are welcome to join in or just listen and it’s another free event. These truly relaxed gatherings are open to all, and are an ideal opportunity to enjoy traditional music in a traditional pub with maybe a pint of traditional ale.

So much is on, it is hard to make a choice!

The town was certainly full of music at 0400 this morning. Thanks to whichever inconsiderate idiot that was.
