Brewer Alex Arkell, who has sampled Noel Ale every Christmas of his entire life!

The first traditional Christmas ale has appeared in Whitchurch with the arrival of Noel Ale at the White Hart.
Family brewer Arkell’s produce this beer each year in time for Christmas but this one is different.

A new brewer for a historic ale
For the first time, the beer has been brewed by Alex Arkell, great grandson of the beer’s namesake, Sir Noel Arkell, who was born on Christmas Day in 1893 and ran the brewery from the 1920s until 1971.

Alex says he has tasted Noel Ale every Christmas of his entire life!

Pumps on the bar at the White Hart

December only
The malty and hoppy golden ale is only available in December and although at 5% strength it is very drinkable and ideal for a cold day. This beer presently joins Arkell’s Wiltshire Gold and 3Bs on the pumps.
The White Hart has recently been awarded a place in the Campaign for Real Ale’s flagship publication, the Good Beer Guide, as has the Bell, in Bell Street.

Lots on in Whitchurch pubs
As well as the warming Noel Ale, the White Hart has many events over the Christmas period from children’s activities to live music and fancy dress discos – see the EVENTS CALENDAR.

An excellent choice
Whitchurch remains an excellent place for the choice of public houses which are all worth a visit.
The Kings Arms, Red House, Prince Regent, Social Club, Bell and the White Hart will all be providing their usual excellent service over the Christmas period, while just a little further out are the excellent Watership Down Inn and the Hurstbourne.

What an excellent name for a beer. Arkell, that is. Just kidding. We’re on our way.
