Tangmere steamed through Whitchurch last summer as seen in this photo.

The first steam train of 2012 is scheduled* to visit Whitchurch this Sunday. Obviously this will be the first steam locomotive to travel below the new bridge on Newbury Road.

The 34067, Tangmere, Black Five, number 44932, is booked to speed through our station at around 12:15 on its way to Bristol via Salisbury. It takes on water at Overton between 11:57am and 12:11pm. The train makes the return journey at around 18:55 without stopping nearby.

The new bridge across the railway line along Newbury Road is still under construction, so it cannot be used for observing the steam train. There are pedestrian only bridges at the station itself and a little to the east, off of Bere Hill near the water tower.

UPDATE: Video of the whoosh-past is now on YouTube HERE.
