Today a steam-hauled train will be passing through Whitchurch in both directions as it hauls an excursion from Southend to Salisbury and back.
The loco is No.70000 Britannia which will be hauling ‘The Cathedral Express’.
This impressive engine was built for express services and was capable of reaching 100mph.
For many years Britannia’s cab roof was painted white to commemorate her pulling the funeral train of King George VI from Sandringham to London in 1952.
