Whitchurch Silk Mill will be live on air this Saturday, 11th May 10.30am – 4pm, as Andover Radio Amateur Club set up an amateur radio station at the Mill helping it to take part in ‘The Mills on the Air Weekend’. This annual event is run jointly by Denby Dale Amateur Radio Society and SPAB (Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings) with the aim of increasing public awareness of these ancient buildings.
Tenth year at the Mill
This will be the tenth year that the Andover Radio Amateur Club has set up and operated a radio station at the mill. They are aiming to contact at least ten other Mills that are participating in the event as well as amateurs working from their own home stations. You’ll find them by using the call sign GB0 WSM.
English Mills and Dutch Windmills
There are over 50 other mills taking part in the event, these are located all over England including local mills at Southampton and Eling; in addition there are up to 10 Windmills in the Netherlands which will be taking part.
The number of other stations that they are able to contact will depend on the prevailing atmospheric conditions, so let’s hope for blue skies and clear weather on Saturday!
