Australian classical guitarists, Duo Agostino, are staging a concert entitled Music Under a Whitchurch Sky in Whitchurch Silk Mill on Sunday 4 August. The concert is being presented by fellow guitarist, Whitchurch’s own Vincent Lindsey-Clark, who will also join the duo on the evening for a couple of pieces.
The concert, which starts at 7.30pm and costs £12 (£10 Friends), follows the success of Vincent’s own recital at the Mill in April, when he played to a packed house. Once again, there will be cabaret-style seating and a bar.
This is not the first time Duo Agostino have performed in Hampshire – in 2006 they appeared as featured artists at the Winchester Guitar Festival. The final details of the Silk Mill programme are yet to be finalised, but the concert is called Music Under a Whitchurch Sky in recognition of the duo’s album, Under the Same Sky, which they recorded in the UK while they were here in 2006.
Raffaele and Janet Agostino, who hail from Sydney, share a strong interest in the development of the guitar as an ensemble instrument. They have both been active in organising and tutoring at the annual Sydney Guitar Summer School over the last 18 years and have been regular performers at the Darwin International Guitar Festival. They have both been awarded Life membership by the Classical Guitar Society, Sydney, for their significant and sustained contribution.
“I spent some time recently as principal overseas guest recitalist and tutor at the Sydney Guitar Summer School, and so when Raffaele and Janet told me they were coming to the UK to play a concert and give a masterclass at the Dillington Guitar Festival in Illminster, I suggested they might like to play in Whitchurch as well.
“The Silk Mill is a wonderful venue for an intimate guitar recital. As I discovered in April, not only does it have a unique ambience, but the acoustics are very good. I think the audience will not only be enchanted by Janet and Raffaele’s playing but will enjoy their warm Aussie humour too.”
Tickets for Music Under a Whitchurch Sky can be booked in the Silk Mill shop or by telephoning (01256) 892065.
But hurry – there are just 50 tickets available.
