Coach Trip to Street – Monday 11th November 9.30am – 6.00pm Tickets: £22 .00
Let the coach take the hassle out of Christmas shopping and join us for a day at the Clarks Village outlet shopping centre and shoe museum in Street. Take some time to explore the village and with your shopping done, maybe enjoy a nice lunch in one of the highly rated pubs!
Street is a bustling village in Somerset, about two miles from Glastonbury. With a history dating back to Roman times, Street takes its name from an ancient causeway used to transport local Blue Lias stone for the building of nearby Glastonbury Abbey.
In the mid 17th century, the Society of Friends was established in Street; the old meeting house can still be seen. Among the Quaker families who settled here were the Clarks and in 1825 James Clark began the production of woollen slippers followed later by shoes and boots. The business flourished and profits were ploughed back into employee welfare, housing and education.
Clarks still has its headquarters in Street, although shoes are no longer manufactured there. In 1993, the old factory buildings were converted into Clarks Village retail park and museum; probably the first purpose built factory outlet in the United Kingdom.
