As reported at last Monday’s Town Council Meeting, there have been more reports of irresponsible dog owners taking the time to collect their pet’s mess in a bag, then not disposing of it in the bins provided. Bags of dog mess have been seen in hedges, trees and residents’ gardens.
In some ways this confusing behaviour is worse than not picking up after your dog at all, because unlike dog mess the plastic bags do not break down and can last for years in the environment.
Dogs are a great comfort to many people, especially the disabled and those living alone, and most dog-owners are responsible but as in many areas of life there are a small minority who act in a wholly anti-social way. There are hefty fines for not cleaning up after your dog, however meaningful enforcement appears impractical.
Reader’s comments are welcomed on possible solutions to this problem.
